Playing within the Club internal leagues is THE way to improve your game. This is the ‘bread and butter’ of the Club bowler’s game.
Some leagues are men only, some women only, but most open.
Unlike roll-up sessions the leagues have pre-determined teams which stay together for the entire season (‘winter’ or ‘summer’) with a specific team captain who manages the team for that season.
As you would expect, the internal league games can be a little more competitive than a roll-up but nevertheless are welcoming of new bowlers and a great place to meet people, have fun and improve your bowls!
All run for either the ‘winter‘ season or the ‘summer‘ season and operate slightly differently in the winter and summer…..
Winter Season Leagues (Sept to April)
Teams for the winter season are set in September but new players can be introduced into existing teams at any time through the season.
If you fancy joining in one of the winter leagues there are a number of routes you can take…
1) Wait until shortly before the leagues are due to start (September) and add your name to the lists that will go up on the club notice boards. You can add your name to as many leagues as you like and you will be organised into a team by the League Stewards
2) Make yourself known to the league stewards or Club Stewards (behind the bar) at any time through the season and the league stewards will organise you into a team
3) If you become aware that any team captains are looking for new players during the season you can speak with them directly
Once in a ‘Winter’ league team you would expect to remain in that team for the season.
Your team captain will decide who plays with who, in which games and in which position, at the beginning of each season. You can thus manage your calendar to be available as needed!

Summer Season Leagues (May to September)
Teams for the summer season are drawn ‘afresh’ every year.
You thus need to put your name on the lists put up at the start of every season (April).
You will play with different team captains and players each year and again can put your name down for as many leagues as you wish.
As per the Winter leagues, your team captain will decide who plays with who, in which games and in which position at the beginning of each season. You can thus manage your calendar to be available as needed!
